About ALSI:
We enable quantified-touch for surgical robots and medical devices
Who We Are
ALSI is the industry leader in the tactile assessment of tissue, with a specialty in bone. Our Company pioneered the field of tactile tissue measurement, developed the first practical clinical embodiment (OsteoProbe®/BoneScore®), established the reference values, and obtained FDA clearance for a new class of device. Our technology can measure materials in vivo or in situ, ‘quantifying touch’ or providing real-time tactile feedback.
Our Story
ALSI is a medical technology company founded on the work by physicist Dr. Paul Hansma of UCSB. He discovered a ‘glue-like’ role played by tiny molecular structures to dramatically improve the strength of certain materials. One such material was bone, where Dr. Hansma’s ‘bone glue’ breakthrough motivated his invention of a new way to measure the strength and quality of materials, called Reference Point Indentation (RPI).
The RPI platform enables quantified-touch for surgeons and physicians. BoneScore®, the first FDA cleared (De Novo) tactile assessment of bone, was the seminal medical device derivative of the RPI platform.
